DETAILS | Ghent University PhD Research Position
The PhD student will investigate individuals’ rights in the context of secondary uses of health data for research, considering relevant regulatory frameworks. Specifically, the researcher will identify and evaluate relevant provisions in EU regulatory frameworks, including the GDPR, upcoming Data Governance Act, and the European Health Data Space, to enhance individuals’ rights when their data are processed for research purposes. This legal analysis will be grounded in the theoretical framework concerning transparency, fairness, and lawfulness in health data processing.
Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for the Ghent University Faculty of Law and Criminology PhD research position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Hold a master’s degree in Law or a relevant discipline.
• Demonstrate a passion for research and possess strong analytical skills.
• Be willing to engage with interdisciplinary methodologies in health privacy research and keep abreast of literature in bioethics, health and data protection law, and health informatics.
• Exhibit an impressive track record, including academic achievements, publications, and/or awards.
• Have the ability to work independently while also being a team player.
• Possess strong organizational skills and meet deadlines effectively.
• Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Previous educational, research, or professional experience in EU data protection law and/or health law will be advantageous for this position.
