Phase 1: Basic Training (9 months)

  • Basic Training at a Training Academy as a Police Trainee Phase 2: Probation (12 months) • Upon successful completion of Basic Training, candidates will be appointed to the rank of Constable.

  • Be a South African Citizen;
  • Possess a Senior Certificate / National Senior Certificate / National Certificate (Vocational) and hold a Bachelor of Science Degree or any other field of study (minimum 3-year National Diploma/Degree) recorded on the National Learners’ Record Database on NQF level 6 or higher;
  • Fluency in at least two official languages, with English being one of them;
  • Between eighteen (18) and under thirty (30) years of age;
  • Have no prior criminal convictions or pending criminal cases, willing to undergo fingerprinting, background checks, and deemed suitable for appointment;
  • No visible and/or irreconcilable tattoo marks inconsistent with the Service’s objectives; Willingness to take the oath of office;
  • Successfully complete a medical examination;
  • Pass a physical fitness assessment;
  • Undergo psychological and Integrity assessments as determined by the National Commissioner, complying with the profile of a police official;
  • Be willing to undergo training as determined by the National Commissioner;
  • Be prepared to serve and be trained anywhere in the Republic of South Africa.

How to Apply to SAPS: Interested applicants should submit their applications on the official application form, available at any Police Station/SAPS Recruitment offices or downloadable from the SAPS Website (https://www.saps.gov.za). The Z83 form previously used will no longer be accepted. Adherence to all instructions on the application form is crucial, as failure to do so may result in application rejection.

  • Specify the post particulars and reference number on the application form.
  • Include a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae with the application form.
  • Attach copies of ID, Senior Certificate/National Senior Certificate/National Certificate (Vocational), all obtained educational qualifications (Degree/National Diploma), academic record, service certificates from previous employers (where applicable), and motor vehicle driving licence (optional).
  • Copies need not be certified.

Qualifications and driving licences will undergo verification checks with relevant institutions.

  • Appointments will be made in accordance with the South African Police Service Act, 1995.
