Role purpose

Accountabilities:

• Learning and eventually working with various facets of the financial environment, with a primary focus on accounting and reporting aspects. This includes accounts payable, accounts receivables, fixed assets, financial statements preparation, internal controls, and taxation.
• Aiming to achieve high proficiency and agility in the finance domain during the internship program.
• Incorporating soft skills as an integral part of learning and stakeholder engagement.
• Analyzing and interpreting the balance sheet through balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assisting with annual financial statement (AFS) preparation, monthly reporting, VAT, SARS queries, statutory requirements, and external/internal audits.
• Supporting the finance team in partnering with the business to provide accurate reporting.
• Conducting data collection and interrogating source data in SAP/Microsoft Dynamics to ensure the correctness of general ledger postings.
• Living core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for actions, and caring for colleagues and the business.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
• Reconciling balance sheet ledgers to sub-ledgers on AP/AR/GL and clearing accounts.
• Ensuring basic controls are performed in a timely manner.
• Managing timely feedback according to Syngenta standards on finance personnel, third-party providers, and the European Finance Operation Team.
• Responsible for ad hoc tasks related to finance, not limited to those already mentioned above.

Qualifications & Knowledge about Syngenta SA Programme:

• BCom Degree in Accounting or equivalent.
• Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Dynamics advantageous.
• Full MS Office proficiency.
• Understanding of general accounting principles (IFRS, Tax & Companies Act).
• Good understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards.
• Good understanding of the Companies Act.
• Good understanding of business end-to-end processes and internal controls.
• Good knowledge of tax rules.
• Good understanding of how the business operates.
• Good understanding of the internal control framework.
• Ability to work in a fast-changing environment.
